Welcome to the Meeting Pearls IV distribution of PasTeX 1.4!
------------------------------------------------------------
Again this distribution includes a number of changes, mostly updates
and bug fixes. This file will explain them in detail.
If you have access to the World Wide Web, you should have a look
at http://home.pages.de/~olk/texmf.html (currently points to
http://wwwcip.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/user/orknorr/texmf.html)
before starting to use this distribution. This page will always give
you the latest hints and bug fixes that appeared only after the CD-ROM
was finished.
If you find any bugs or want to comment on the texmf-part of this CD,
you can e-mail me at olk@johann.nbg.sub.org.
The following things are new or have been updated:
- A "Changes" file (you are reading it) has been added.
- LaTeX2e has been updated to the June 1996 distribution.
- LaTeX 2.09 is no longer included. If you are still using it,
please consider switching to LaTeX2e.
- german.sty has been updated to release 2.5c.
- The hyphenation patterns are the latest CTAN collection.
- dc-fonts (sources and dxbase) v1.3, patch level 2 are included.
Many thanks to Hartmut Goebel for updating the files in
metafont/config/fontlist to the new names of the dc-fonts v1.3
and creating the font bitmaps (pk-files) for the new dc-fonts.
- HWGPOST is no longer included. If you want to use SpecialHost
to render PostScript files, you have to get and install HWGPOST
on your own. Sorry for the inconvenience, but I did not have the
time to update the installation script for the current version
of HWGPOST (would take quite a bit of work), and did not want
to include the outdated beta version of HWGPOST either.
Important installation notes:
* SpecialHost requires you to copy the init.ps file from your
HWGPOST distribution to the TeX:ps directory!
* HWGPOST beta 8 is incompatible with SpecialHost and DVIPS.
Use beta 9 or newer releases!
- MF:rexx/MakeTeXFont.rexx is updated to 1.13 with support for ps2pk,
thanks to Hartmut Goebel for many improvements.
- TeXt Plus Professional is now included in the directory TPP.
Christian Scharrnbeck contributed new, additional documentation
to the Meeting Pearls team you can find in TPP/Dok_Bearb.
- The (German) LaTeX-Kurzanleitung has been replaced by the
LaTeX2e-Kurzanleitung. Find it in doc/latex/l2kurz.
- The name of the directory for TeX macros has changed once again.
It is no longer TeX:macros or TeX:inputs, but TeX:tex now.
There are three subdirectries:
TeX:tex/plain contains packages plain TeX format files
TeX:tex/latex contains packages for LaTeX format files
TeX:tex/generic contains packages for both plain TeX and LaTeX
Each package in these three directories has a directory of
its own, too. Sorry for the trouble these changes will cause,
but the new structure is much cleaner and easier to maintain.
It also conforms to the TeX directory structure proposed by
the TUG working group.
- Documentation that was hidden in the macro directories has been moved
to doc/generic and doc/latex.
- LaTeX macro packages that are not ready to use, but need to be installed
first, have been moved from the macro directories to source/latex.
- The LaTeX packages "graphics" and "babel" are now pre-installed
and configured for PasTeX. The installation script can copy them
automatically, too.
- Texinfo and makeinfo/makeguide are now integrated in the distribution
and can be automatically installed with the Install.HD script.
- Documentation, configuration files and the installation script
have been updated to reflect the changes listed above.
The following bugs of the Meeting Pearls III distribution or all
CD-ROM distributions have been fixed:
- Installation script can not be started because of wrong ToolType.
- Automatic generation of font bitmaps does not work.
- Copying of missing tfm files with automatic font generation
does not work.
- Metafont Assign and Path statements in S:User-Startup even
if Metafont is not installed.
- Installation script does not copy pk-fonts correctly.
- CD-ROM is requested at boot time because of PKVol: Assign.
- TeX paths are not set in TeXShell with custom shells.
Happy TeXing,
Oliver Knorr.
